PI 1.8.8-3 Does Not Open Or Close Properly

It throws the attached exception when starting up.  I have to click 3 times before the program opens, and the program crashes when shutting down.  OS is Windows 7 Professional.  I tried reinstalling and got the same behavior.  What's happening?

win7 is not officially supported anymore - just win10.

you'll have to figure out how to get that DLL if you want to keep using 7, and even then no guarantees that it's going to work...

I did find that dll, but now it is looking for additional ones.  The program does open up after going through 4 to 5 popup alerts.  After that it seems to work with the processes I tried.  Closing the program throws an app crashed message.

It seems I will have to get a Windows 10 computer in the near future in order to run PixInsight.  I don't trust the Windows upgrade process to work flawlessly.

fwiw i have been using windows 10 on my OTA computer and it has worked fine for the most part. just the usual nonsense where sometimes windows can't install an update... eventually that caused it to keep rebooting overnight (which is bad for capture control to say the least) but i managed to hide the update and it stopped doing that.

I've got the same problem. "The program can't start because api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-2-0.dll is missing from your computer".

I click on OK 3 times and it seems to run.

On exit it crashes with APPCRASH.   Fault Module Name: Qt5WebEngineCore.dll   Exception Code: c0000005  Exception Offset: 0000000001c3d1c3

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bit.


p.s. To anyone blaming Windows 7 - Windows 7 support lasts until 14 January 2020, and Windows 8 until 10 January 2023.
Neither of these operating systems contain api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-2-0.dll, so blaming me for not installing Windows 10 would be a poor cop-out.

Indeed, to install Windows 10 means a new motherboard (no Win10 drivers for my current MB), processor and ram and a fresh install of hundreds of applications I use plus about 300 games (of the >1000 I own). So, close to $1000 and hundreds of hours of my time to just run this 1 program... hmmm No thanks.

Oh, and jliu, you are absolutely right about not trusting the Windows upgrade process. As a computer technician who has had to wipe dozens of PCs which failed (by the customer just clicking OK to the free upgrade)... Yeah, just don't do it.
