Calibration - Master Bias Vs Dark flats
« on: 2019 November 03 15:51:17 »
Hi All,

I've been away from imaging for about 2-3 years and just wanted to ask a question about current recommended calibration methods. My camera is a Kaf 8300 ccd.

So which is the current recommended method for calibration :-

1) Create Master Bias / SuperBias -> Calibrate Darks -> Create Master Darks -> Calibrate Flats with Master Bias / Master Darks -> Create Master Flats  -> Calibrate Lights with Master Dark & Master Flats.

2) Create Master DarkFlats -> Create Master Darks  -> Calibrate Flats with Master DarkFlats -> Create Master Flats -> Calibrate Lights with Master Flats & Master Dark

Many Thanks in Advance,
Rich.

Wow thanks that was a very useful link, it it looks like a lot of the tutorials out on the web have got it all wrong.  I always wondered why i got error when calibrating, and it looks like it's all down to the fact that I calibrate the darks with Master bias, instead of performing the calibration during the light frame integration.

Can't wait to get home tonight and try this new approach to see how it works.
