Printing HistogramTransformation Result
« on: 2019 November 01 20:25:36 »
When I apply (F5) my HistogramTransformation to my active image I get a result that I’m happy with.  However, when I print this image, I get a result that is very dark as if any applied stretching did not take effect.  What am I missing?  I did click on the track view icon (check mark).

Hi,

Is the image stretched permanently...Applying the HT should have stretched the image or did the image look stretched because you had applied the STF, which is a "visual stretch" only.  Before printing, what was the image format you saved ... jpg, png?

What I did was bring up the STF process and made some changes with STF.  Then I brought up the HT process.  I created a new instance of STF and dragged the process icon into the HT process.  Made some minor changes using HT and then did an Apply (F5).  I saved the image as a jpg and then went to print.  My PI desktop can be viewed here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gv7h6qgbz6j7fjd/M11_Project.jpg?dl=0
I'm trying to follow instructions in Keller's book "Inside PixInsight".

the green line along the left tab there means that there is still an STF applied to your image. try turning that off and it should look like what has been saved to disk.

I understand what you are saying, but how do I make my HistoryTransformation changes permanent so they show up when I print?
I'm a newbie and must be missing something super simple.

I know you said you "Applied" the HT process. However, you should not end up with  (or want to see) a green line in your view. This indicates that the STF is being used.
After applying HT (and resetting the STF) you will not have a green line *and* the image will look like you want when you save it as a TIF or JPEG file. HT does make a permanent change.

I did make a 3 part video set to really make clear lots of STF and HT info.

Adam -

Thank you so much for pointing out your Youtube videos to me.  Your Part III did answer my question and probably saved me additional hours of digging to get those answers.  I'm going to be writing up a suggestion to the team to hopefully save some future newbies some brain damage.
