Win32 exception and memory errors with scripts
« on: 2019 October 26 02:04:24 »
Does anyone else get these please?

Been having these for a while, even before 1.8.7,  for some reason only when I run scripts.  Everything else works fine.  I have done Prime CPU torture tests and memory tests and the system (i8-8700K, 32G memory, 1070Ti graphics) is stable.  It is not overclocked.  Adobe CC works perfectly.

Windows 10 x64 and PI 1.8.7 all patches and up to date.

Any thoughts please?   Even if none and everyone else is fine just want to try and rule out the SW side of things.....

Thanks. Steve

This is during Image Integration of 24 Ha frames.

This is starting to get annoying.  PI has always been as steady as a rock but I am startling to lose confidence in it.

Hi,

Please have a look at the PixInsight ---> Bug Report forum and there are a number or issues/solutions to your error.  One report was about a software conflict and the other was about editing PixInsight Global Preferences.

Sorry, that is all I can find at the moment.

Reset Pixinsight.  Still get issues when scripts have been run.  C0000005 errors.
Machine runs fine with Prime 95 and Memtest86+.

Keep having to save my project all the time since I have lost confidence in PI now :( I forgot and lost two hours of work.

In desperation I manually set the UI scaling to 1.5 in global preferences and I updated my Nvidia drivers - I am on a 40" 4k monitor.  It has not given me Win32 exception errors today.  I will monitor this.

Nope, still getting them.

They are so bad that I had to force quit PI in Prcoess console, even "quit PI" wouldn't work without C000005 errors.  All other applications on the machine are working perfectly whilst PI is in this state.

All I have done is use BPP, Star Align and then Image Integration.

I am having to do a save project every five minutes to avoid losing my work in case this issue happens.

Any thoughts in this please?  Am I posting in the wrong section?  I have not put into a bug section becase I am not sure it is a bug.

I am going to remove, reboot, reinstall and see if that fixes it.

Steve,

Needless to say, I am very sorry to see this. These problems cannot be reproduced on any platform, on any machine we have used to develop and test PixInsight, including a variety of computers running Windows 10.

This is a machine-specific issue, probably related to your graphics drivers. This can also be a conflict with other applications. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do to alleviate these problems because they are not reproducible. Versions 1.8.6, 1.8.7 and the new 1.8.8 are very stable in all of our tests on all platforms. Can you try on a different computer?

Hi Juan,
Does PI generate a core dump when it locks up, for fault finding purposes when the kernel tips over?  It is the only app on my entire machine with an issue.  I use other high CPU and memory apps like Premier Pro and After Effects without any issues at all....  PI was working perfectly until a month ago.  Then it suddenly had these issues even on 1.8.6.  Makes me think a Windows Update has upset something because I have not installed anything new on the machine.  This is my main work machine and the only apps on it are Adobe CC, PI and Microsoft Office.

Anyway, I uninstalled graphics and sound drivers, removed PI.  Rebooted.  Used registry cleaner to remove all traces of PI.  Rebooted.  Reinstalled drivers.  Rebooted.  Reinstalled PI.  Rebooted.

....seems OK today.  Fingers crossed.

I also use 1.8.7 on my MAC.  No problems at all.......

If PI tips over again I will reimage the entire machine.

It's still going well.  I do not have any third party scripts installed, just the default installation.  I will see how this goes for a week or two.  Then I will install the 3rd party scripts and see if it is those that are causing these Win32 errors.
