Hello,

I am a very happy user of Pixinsight on my Mac, however, I installed it on my eagle3q recently and whilst it did work for a little while, it now comes up with 'fatal error' on loading and exits the program.

system is win enterprise 10 2016 LTSB
version 1607
os build 14393.2879
processor: intel pentium j5005 @1.5 ghz
4.00 GB RAM
64 bit

I'm not sure what log file to provide in relation to the error message.

Thanks

Chris

Not that I have a solution but Pixinsight works normally under my Eagle (version 2). Have you tried just a fresh install ?

Thats good to know. I did re-install, it worked for a while, but when I closed it and started it up again it came up with the fatal error that it had come up with before.

Thanks

out of curiosity what kind of video hardware does the primalucia have? integrated intel graphics? i know there are sometimes problems with the drivers for the integrated intel graphics but assigning blame to that is just a guess at this point.

Hi,

Its Intel(R) UHD graphics 605.

So pixinsight worked once (again), and then trying again just now, it doesn't start up - looks like it's going to run then nothing happens.

although this is kind of a hail mary, maybe starting PI with one of the --opengl=<impl> flags might change things... check the announcement thread for 1.8.6.1457:

Hi Rob,

I don't quite understand what you meant by your last suggestion. If you can explain how to do it that will be great.

The situation at the moment is that pixinsight works fine some of the time, then at other times doesn't. When it doesn't m after I double click on it, I get the circular cursor for a few seconds and then nothing happens, no startup 'pxinsight Ripley etc' screen appears.

Thanks

Chris

well so Pixinsight can be started from the command line on all platforms. when you start from the command line you can pass additional flags to the program. in addition on windows you can make a shortcut that passes these flags when you double click the shortcut.

in this case PI has several modes for how it uses the OpenGL graphics library, which is what the --opengl= flag specifies. if indeed the OpenGL implementation for the intel integrated graphics chipset is broken, then starting PI without OpenGL acceleration might solve the problem. another thing to try would be to see if there is an upgrade to the intel integrated graphics driver for this chipset on the intel website.

but all of this is just a guess - i know that some laptops have intel integrated graphics and people have reported openGL related problems on those laptops. the eagle is similar to a laptop in that it does not have discrete graphics, so i thought maybe this openGL stuff was worth a try.
