Crashing since Mojave update
« on: 2019 February 13 12:21:50 »
I updated the computer to the latest version of Mojave, as recommended.  Unfortunately, I'm still having random crashes.  It does not seem tied to a particular process.  Report is attached.

Is this also a known issue?

Yes, it was fine under high Sierra for a long time.  Then, out of the blue, it crashed twice in a short period of time.  I posted about it below and Juan said that updating to Mojave would fix the issue  (whatever it is/was).  I don't know if the latest crash is the same problem or not.

2017 MBP 2.8Ghz i7, Radeon Pro 555/Intel HD Graphics  630

I don't know if this could be an issue, but I noticed that after updating, the 'auto graphics switching' option was turned back on.  I just turned it off.  I know that option can be an issue with TSX, so maybe it makes a difference here....

the only other mac crash i can think of (with the new version anyway) were those caused by bad thermal management, but that seems to plague only the 2018 MBPs as far as we've seen here.

hopefully the GPU switching thing fixes it...

My Windows 10 install is crashing this AM, so you Mac guys are not alone.  There was a flag that I had to set for a while to turn off the graphics card too.  Have to look it up.  Was working for while without that flag.

Another crash report.

Juan, should I continue to post these?  Is this a known issue?

Hi Mike,

Yes, of course. These reports can always be helpful to understand why these problems happen. So please post them and thank you for reporting issues.

The report you've posted indicates that there has been a crash in the HistogramTransformation tool, probably when you were moving one of the shadows or highlights clipping sliders with the mouse cursor. This problem has never been reported before and cannot be reproduced. It is very strange also because the HT tool is very stable and mature (it has been around for more than 14 years) so the probability of a bug like that is very low. So this is probably a machine-specific issue in the category of "things that happen".

But, of course, a bug should never be ruled out. Can you provide more information? For example, do you remember what you were doing exactly when the crash happened? Was the HT tool working with the real-time preview? Something special about the image you were working with? Can you reproduce the same problem?

Juan

Thanks.  I DO think that the crash occurred while the HT tool was interacting with a real time preview, most likely using the black point slider, which I've been doing a lot of lately as I experiment with Arcsinhstretch, so that was open as well (most likely).  Going forward, if it happens again, I will be sure to note the exact steps that lead to the crash.  At this point, I'd only be guessing.  Another point of note is the that I am currently working with a project that is about 80Gb so there may be memory handling issues at play (but I really have no idea).

Hopefully, I won't be in touch!

Mike
