Here is a crash report. PI simply hard crashed. First time this has happened in years.

This has already been reported on macOS 10.13.6:

This seems to be a problem specific to Sierra and High Sierra. See for example
a similar report
with the KStars application running on macOS 10.13.4.
I strongly recommend you upgrade to macOS 10.14 Mojave, where these problems have not been reported.

Thank you for the advice.
It used to be that updating the Mac OS was automatic - newer was ALWAYS better. But, more recently things are not as straightforward. Hopefully, Mojave is a winner. Fingers crossed.
