So I bought it :)
« on: 2019 February 09 05:50:37 »
Hey folks
Been lurking around here for a bit while I was running on my 45 day trial .
Would like to tell you what I have found comparing, as quite a noob to astrophotography ( started august last year ) the differences in my processing between photoshop and PI.
I am no expert in either but with PS I found everything to be quite subjective and with PI it seems to be so much more fluid and logical.
Folks talk about the steep learning curve in PI , well I never found it . I followed some tutorials on youtube and got some results :) .Maybe because some want a 3 click method to a fantastic astropic and cant be bothered to learn or spent time processing this is where the "steep" learnining curve originates from.
Now im not saying that PS is no good at processing astro pics, it is and I have seen wonderful shots of different space objects done with PS.
What Im saying is that I found that to produce good images using PS requires some good knowledge of how to use it properly and for me PI is just so much better as it is dedicated to astrophotography. It is not an "all round " tool like PS.

Here is an image I did using PI ( think this was done with only lights )

Welcome! Congratulations on joining the PI family. That is a fine image!

I envision a day when we say 'Hey, AI overlord, image M31 tonight' and the next morning a nice, processed image is ready to print and hang on the wall :)

Until then, the learning curve is unavoidable, regardless of the imaging software. Choose your tool and learn it. You've chosen wisely, IMO.

Luigi Marchesi

I had a similar experience some years ago.  I watched the Harry's Astroshed videos and in less than a day I was getting better results than ever before.  It wasn't difficult at all.  Since then I have learned a lot and realised that my early images were pretty terrible but that's not the fault of PixInsight :)  Welcome to the club.

Cheers,
Rick.
