Cannot Uninstall V 1.8.5

The Pixinsight Installer/Uninstaller process freezes while trying to uninstall V 1.8.5 using the Windows control panel.  The attached screen capture shows the popup window.  It sits there idle. Task Manager is required to stop the process.  I need to uninstall the old version before installing V 1.8.6.  System is Windows 7 SP1 .  Please advise.  Thanks.

Is it possible that your anti-virus is stopping the process. You might try disabling it while you uninstall. Also check that you have the latest updates from Microsoft.

I tried turning off the antivirus, and my windows updates are current, but the pixinsight setup window still remains in a frozen state.  It seems I am missing a another popup window that asks what I want do.

Is it possible to simply delete the Pixinsight program directory, or are there registry entries that must be changed with a proper uninstall?  I don't want to have a corrupted syste; at least I can still run 1.8.5 for now.

Here's a screen capture of the installer/uninstaller crash message.  The banner says Pixinsight is apparently not responding to the logic and data in the installer database.  Here's the problem signature in the scroll box:

Painful as it was, I solved the problem by biting the bullet, wiping the hard drive, and reinstalling windows and application programs on this workstation.  I suspect it was a corrupted windows registry with too many loose ends that interfered with PixInsight uninstall/install. This process will take me a few days to get back to normal. At least PixInsight installed.
