Just upgraded to 1.8.6 -- gentoo linux.  No problems with download or with getting the activation key.

Thanks again for all the hard work the team puts into this :)

1.8.6 keeps crashing when I try to do Image integration after using comet align.   How do I go back to 1.8.5 for a while?

HI JUAN

Steve Herrman and i have gotten it to work on my MBP. I had to reload the default wallpaper in the global preferencesand afterward it seems to work ok now including the sub frame selector. I think that is what I did whatever it is working now so do not worry.

1.8.5 and 1.8.4 are still on dist.pixinsight.com - just log in there with the same credentials you used to generate the new license key and download the installer.

Glad to see progress for Pixinsight.  Out of curiosity at CEDIC a couple years ago you announced a replacement for DBE but it seems that it has never been released?  What is the status of that project?

Thank you very much to Juan and testers for 1.8.6. After some patience I have downloaded, installed, and activated on laptop and desktop Macs. Running fine in Mojave Dark Mode.

I have already started working on the new DynamicBackground tool (DB), which will replace the current DBE with important improvements and new features. However, before DB I want to release a new astrometry-based mosaic construction tool, which will be an important landmark. The mosaic construction tool is my maximum priority before DB because it adds new functionality that we need urgently, while DB replaces an already existing tool.

If everything goes as I expect, the mosaic construction tool (final name still undecided) should be ready in January/February. DB should be ready in February/March. There will be other new things besides these tools. As I said before, PixInsight development is now on a rocket.

Can you please provide a data set where I can reproduce this problem, as well as a description of the steps necessary to reproduce it? Only if I can reproduce and understand the problem I'll be able to fix it.

 Hi everyone!

At the beginning, I apologize to all of You for my simple and imperfect English.

I'm Mariusz (or Mario - if You like :) ) and I'm new here. From a few months I'm happy (more or less ;) ) user of PixInsight.

I've been waiting impatiently for the PixInsight update because now I mainly use the Nikon Z6 for astrophotography. I was hoping that support for this camera will appear in the 1.8.6 release ... but unfortunately not.

And here is my question, when will this support be implemented?

     Greetings
     Mariusz

Hi Everyone,

Firstly - a big thank you to Juan for the updates!

Now - I am confused.  I just launched PixInsight (Mac version) and went to resources ==> updates ==> check for updates and it comes back with no updates available.

I checked my version and I'm running 1.08.05.1352 Ripley.  I last updated it perhaps Six weeks ago without issue and it was fully up to date, at least according to the update scripts.  I am an infrequent user of the application btw.

So, why hasn't the software updated to I presume v1.8.5? (I'm not sure if that was the last update option or not, so correct me if I am wrong)?

Why are there no updates available when I run the update scripts now?

Do I have to manually remove my current install of PixInsight and download the 1.8.5 version and then run updates to get the 1.8.6 update?

I presume the new licence key version will not work with the older version of PixInsight on my system, so I must first upgrade to v1.8.6 before applying the new licence.

Does the new licence request get trigged whilst upgrading or post upgrade to 1.8.6?

One final question - my Mac is an older MacBook Pro mid 2010 (13" unit) - I am unable to upgrade to MacOS due to firmware blocking by Apple Computers (nice One Apple, NOT).  I am unwilling to hack my firmware UEFI rom to address this issue (it's complex, and can make my computer more prone to security related issues, and/or make it more unstable).  Will future upgrades to PixInsight drop support for the older pre MacOS versions of OS X (for example, my current El Capitan install, which is as up to date as I can possibly go because of Apple's seedy behaviour)?  If they will, then my current Mac is pretty much potentially bricked from future PixInsight updates :(  (new features and security issue fixes etc).  This is potentially alarming for me.

Cheers,

Dave

edit: One more question - does the old pixinsight-license file get removed automatically once you upgrade to 1.8.6, if not, I presume you should remove it manually then, for security reasons?

I run PI on two computers, one for the observatory and one for my desktop. Yesterday I was able to upgrade to 1.8.6 and get the new licence code for the observatory and it works fine.
However to install it on my desktop I need to remove 1.8.5 before I can install 1.8.6 . The problem is it is not listed in the list of Programs and features so that I can uninstall it. The program 1.8.5 works fine but given that it is not listed how do I remove it?
I am running windows 10
Help will be appreciated.

I haven't used Windows 10, but perhaps try setting the control panel to "list" (rather than its default category) and see if add/remove programs then gives an option to remove it.  Have you checked if there is an uninstall option under program files ==> PixInsight too (or however the current Windows operating system calls it)?

I stopped using Microsoft Windows after Vista (hated the changes made in Windows 7 onwards to be bluntly honest).  I much prefer OS X or GNU/Linux.
