Inserting Ha into an RGB Image

Hi,

I have an Ha shot at 1x1 binning (tiff file).

I have an RGB shot half the size at 2x2 binning (tiff file).

I want to combine the Ha and RGB together. I've looked at a ton of tutorials. They all seem to contain a ton of steps which do not suit my requirements.

After registering / aligning the two images. Is there a quick and simple function that allows me to combine the two together and upsize the RGB image to the same size of the Ha image please?

Apologies, but because I do not get much time to do astrophotography these days, I am looking for an easy or simple solution that doesn't require a ton of learning, and something that can be easily remembered if I don't use the software for 10 months. I am using PI version 1.8 which does not have the HaRGB combine feature (which I read about tonight, but there are obviously other ways which is why I am here).

What would you recommend please? Thanks in advance.

the only method i can think of that fits your requirements is to ask someone else to do it. merging narrowband and broadband is kind of a chore, which is why you see all kinds of complex tutorials.

PI 1.8 does not have the AIP-SHO script but it does have the NBRGBCombination script, which you might try.

To bring RGB and Ha to the same size, use the tool "Resample".
Alternatively make a new RGB with the drizzle tool, 2x.
Ha to RGB quickly and very well with the script EmissionLineIntegration by Herbert von Bornemann, available here:

if the Ha requires upsizing then the two images have not been registered to one another.

There is also the NBRGBCombination script. I use it for osc and ha combination.

This touches on a similar question I asked in a similar thread. So registration does indeed take care of differences in scale between the two images to be registered? I've seen other workflows that mention both resampling and star alignment, but it seems one would negate the the other it terms of image scale.

not sure why you'd have to do do both - the purpose of StarAlignment is to make a target image exactly the same as the reference. maybe the confusion comes because other software does not do scale transformations but PI does...?

maybe resampling would come into play if you happened to have one integration which is drizzled and one which is not, in which case the drizzled image will be some integer multiple of the reference image.

Ive run into this where my Ha data is not drizzled because of a lower sub count than my OSC master, which is drizzled. I’ve only done it a few times, but I did resample the Ha to match the RGB before star alignment. Plus there was a superpixel debayer involved with the Ha. I’ll try just the star alignment next time to see what happens.
