PI won't restart after I close the program
« on: 2018 June 11 12:28:51 »
Until I reboot.  Then it fires right up.   Shut it down, will not start again till reboot.  Not sure how this could be a Windows problem

Windows 10 -  ASUS F554 with 12 gig of memory, 512 GIG SSD for system, 512 gig SSD for data that I am working with.

If you are closing PI by clicking on the red 'X' at upper right, try closing PI via File->Exit.

That is annoying. Just open anything else, like a text doc, and PI will open again.

If the previous instance did not close properly then the new one will not open.  Kill the previous instance using Task Manager.

Thanks all for the suggestions.   I have not noticed the PI process to still be running in task manager after a shutdown of the program, but I will double check next time.

I may be part of the issue.  Even though I save my primary image I am working on, after that, I discard some working files without closing them and PI reminds me they are unsaved.  I tell it to exit anyway.

I just did some simple checks of opening files but not editing and closing them.   It restarts fine.   It applied an update as well and restarted without issue.

So it does have something to do with the way it shuts down with open unsaved files.

This is probably a bug with a thread in Bug Reports a while back that Juan thinks he has solved and will include in the next update. If you open PI, do not do anything else,  and shut it down either with the exit option or clicking in the right corner,  PI should reopen ok. If you open PI and launch Process Explorer, close it and exit PI by clicking on the upper right box, you will not be able to relaunch PI till you reboot because there is a Pixinsight process still running after PI is closed. If you close that running process in Task Manager, you will be able to launch PI again...
