Photometric Color Calibration Error Message
« on: 2018 June 04 22:11:47 »
Hi I get this message when trying to use PCB:

Photometry process finished:
3 of 3 images processed successfully.
   0 images with errors.

*** Error: Insufficient photometric data: Got 3 sample(s); at least 5 are required.

I've tried increasing the magnitude (to a maximum of 17), increasing sensitivity, adjusting saturation level, and having distortion correction and force plate solving enabling. I have seen threads with similer problems but none of the solutions seem to work in my case. The image has had Crop, DBE and Background Neutralization applied. Please find attached a log of a PCB attempt with default settings. Thanks for the help.

Hi,

I am not sure what the solution is, but try this.  Copy your three images to the same location, but with different names.  Now try the PCC with the 6 images.

Sorry, I thought that maybe more images were required.  Ooops!

Possibly John, I just thought the PCB was automated and found the images itself. I'm not sure what you where proposing, I'm still new to Pixinsight.

HI,
the error message comes from the fitting procedure to evaluate the white balance

I think the image that causes the problem does not contain enough stars.

Can you upload the image to somewhere like dropbox and share the link. This would help.

This is the original integrated file before cropping, DBE or background neutralization.

I had no problem using PCC with your M27 image. I didn't even change anything, just used the default settings.

Thought I would add this. The plate solving that PI uses has good latitude if the image is good. HEre is just such a case. Notice that the settings were for 1000mm yet the solved image is 2400mm. This is why I tend to start with the default settings. If the image has issues then you might be looking at making changes.

Thats weird my focal length was 1000mm not 2400mm.

Just to add, I started with default parameters too. I only changed them when I ran into a problem.

Did you drizzle the image? That will change the apparent focal length. What pixel size is your camera? If it's not 9 like the default then that will change the apparent focal length. Those parameters do not need to be precise for ImageSolver to plate solve as you can see. They do need to be precise if you want the reported log information to be correct. Without knowing what camera and scope the best one can do is guess based on knowledge of the objects in an image.

Here is the image solved with PCC but I changed the Pixel size to 5 instead of 9. Now the reported FL is 1334.

Ah I see, I thought I was supposed to enter the focal length (1000mm) of my scope and the pixel size of the camera which is what I did. I'll give it another go with default FL and pixel size. The pixel size of my camera is 3.75. I didn't drizzle the image but it is cropped.

Thanks for the help. It's much appreciated.
