What's up with the Segoe UI font?
« on: 2009 June 14 08:14:01 »
For some reason on my XP laptop letters in this font often miss the left- or right most row of pixels. For example my debayer process doesn't look very good. Using the preferences dialog I see that the sample text also misses the left most pixels of some of the digits for example. On a different PC it looks OK. I'd change my fonts but then when the next PI release comes out it'll reset all that again.

Looking at the screen captures it seems it's caused by anti aliasing. Can I disable that somewhere?
Best,

Phew! This is the first time I see this problem on Vista.

Segoe is the official UI font on Windows Vista. PixInsight will use it by default on any Windows platform if it is present on the system. Personally, I don't like it too much. It's indeed very legible, but it also has some drawbacks, especially with some character widths that make precalculation of control sizes quite a bit tricky.

I don't think this is a problem with PI, not with Segoe either, but with the font rendering algorithm on Windows. Chances are this is a problem with your video driver. Are you using the latest version?

I suppose you can disable font anti-aliasing, or select a different algorithm, in screen properties. I'll try to investigate on my part; let me know what you find.

Hi Juan,

note how I wrote 'XP laptop' :) this is not my new Vista machine. It's dead till I get the new hard drives. I notice that on *this* machine (XP Pro) it uses Verdana. OK, let me see what I can tweak on the laptop to get rid of it.
