Is Windows 10 Upgrade responsible?
« on: 2018 March 19 06:21:01 »
Hello Everyone, my tale is a strange one. I had to refresh my Win10 after several difficulties with the computer. As a consequence I have had to reinstall Pixinsight , but though the software downloads when I try to install the program I receive the usual "Do you wish this program to make changes" etc., but when extracting the software it disappears from my screen after the loading bar is only a third way complete and nothing happens in loading Pixinsight onto my computer! When I highlight the downloaded file it reads "This installer database contains the logic and data required to install Pixinsight" I have tried loading program as Administrator, allowed the program access in my windows defender , halted the same defender to load program with no success. As you can guess I am at my wits end as to what I need to do next to be  able to install Pixinsight. Prior thanks to any hero who can help me. :D

Everything is now OK as I loaded an earlier version of pixinsight from a dvd file. Phew, back to the steep learning curve once more..... :)

If anyone has the same problem as I had then the answer is to open up Task Manager and end process all msiexec.exe that are running and then Pixinsight will open and install flawlessly. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Window 10 upgrades are responsible for everything ;)
APM 107/700 apo on CGX mount
ZWO Optics - Autoguiding
ZWO1600mm and filters
... when there are no clouds ...

1.8.0 is very old. The current version can be downloaded from https://pixinsight.com/dist/index.html (you should have login data from when you purchased PI). The builtin update mechanism of PI usually only works for minor update, not when a new major version is released. The current version is 1.8.5.1353 https://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=11355.0 .

Yeah 1.8.0 dates back to 2013 https://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=6318.msg42968 . And the RC versions dating back to 2012. Those were fun days!
