Color-Splitter type CMOS Chip vs RGB type
« on: 2018 February 20 16:34:48 »
Hi

I was reading about the benefits of using a color-splitter for CMOS chips to increase sensitivity, see link below:

https://petapixel.com/2013/02/05/panasonic-doubles-color-sensitivity-in-sensors-with-micro-color-splitters/

However, I'm presuming this means the traditional CFA pattern such as RGGB, BGGR, etc no longer applies. So here are a few questions for my interest:

1/. Can a color splitter chip be used for astro-imaging
2/. Assuming the answer to 1. is a yes, can Pixinsight handle the data in a debayering process?  If the answer to 1. is no then maybe the concept of debayering doesn't exist with color cameras that have color-splitter chips?

Thanks

David

if libRAW can handle such sensors then PI will be able to. juan is testing a new DSLR file handling module which is based on libRAW instead of DCRAW.

Thanks Rob
Don't know much about those two terms - would be good to get some additional comments on whether 'in general' such sensors are used for imaging (even if not using PI)

Thanks

This is a lab experiment and a long way away from implementation. Interesting, none the less.
