In processing a  small galaxy, what is the simplest approach to masking both the background and the stars to only process the galaxy?

Hi,
Look at this post, a clever approach, worked fine in my test, use it in a stretched image even if it works also in linear,  take the time to look at this video.

That video is pretty interesting.  You can also try making a star mask and a range mask.  In Pixelmath:  range_mask - star_mask  will give you exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks for the informative video. The pixel math subtraction of the star mask from the range mask seems to work well...

Hi,

2 short videos how you can mask a specific area in an image.

The videos run fast and have no sound - but you should still be able to follow the content.

Best regards!
Herbert, Austria
