LRGB Noise Reduction: Linear Stage or Nonlinear
« on: 2017 October 16 22:04:29 »
Hello,

What stage is noise reduction recommended, linear or nonlinear?

Thanks

Farzad

You can do it at either or both stages.  I like to do a very gentle noise reduction while linear and then a little more, if needed, later on.

Cheers,
Rick.

That is great. If you are doing LRGB would you also apply NR on luminance?

Yes.  I usually have enough data that only very light NR is needed on the Lum.

The MureDenoise script generally does a great job of denoising linear data.  Definitely worth giving it a try if you don't use Drizzle.

I find that with a good application of MultiscaleLinearTransform NR while still linear, TGVDenoise's job in the nonlinear space can be applied lightly for a bit of finishing, before enhancement begins.
Best always, Warren

I tried that and it looks a bit complicated for a newbe. I will check it out more later. I need to learn to develop my own scripts.
