Hi Mikalovich,

As a beginner in Pixinsight, it was a tremendous help for me to follow Harry's video tutorials. I came from the same background (DeepSkyStacker), so I dare to strongly recommend you to use Pixinsight exclusively - meaning forget DSS, start Introduction and Overview and with the BathcPreprocessing script, and follow Harry's tutorials in that order as you can see them on his website Pixinsight Newbie Tutarial videos. They built on each other and gives us a fairly good path to follow.

I also learned a lot from Kayron Mercieca http://lightvortexastronomy.blogspot.com/p/tutorials.html about workflows and different technics. If you use DSLR, see his Pixinsight Workflow for DSLR http://lightvortexastronomy.blogspot.com/2013/12/tutorial-post-processing-pixinsight.html
Jim Morse "Cribsheet" is one of the best "practical" documentation of PI.

As for the Histogram Transformation and white pictures, it seems to me the typical case when you have no perfect understanding how to handle ScreenTransferFunction and HistogramTransformation, when to reset HT and how to use preview in HT. Harry's video and DSLR workflow of Kayronim can be help for that.

PI is still a big mistery sometimes for me, but I hope the above will give you a start for quick succes to postprocessing with PI.

Cheers

Hi

Just started out with a Ha filter and I am looking to use the video tutorial you produced http://www.harrysastroshed.com/pixinsight/pixinsight%20video%20html/pixinsighthomeinter.html and Vicent Peris' equation. I have a small query on the first PixelMath equation used. The number 12 is used in the video and said to be the size of the filter. Can you clarify was the size refers to?

Many thanks

Alec

Hi Alec,

This refers to the filter bandwidth, such as 7nm, 3nm, etc.

Harry;
Like your website, I keep it up while I'm working with Pixinsight. I have used Pixinsight for a few years now but not often enough to have memorized key strokes and shortcuts.
Some items a Newbie might find helpful... Some simple things like keyboard shortcuts and some scripts (for example Aggregating Previews) that are used within your videos are not listed on the table of contents on your webpage.  As I come across the need for a tool, I have a hard time finding where it is, sometime I find it easier to search your videos than the program itself.  On your topic screen, maybe put a list of functions that video is using.
An idea for an intermediate video: Is there a way to register and combine frames from different sources; different cameras and different imaging trains?  I have played with the NASA Hubble library and from Slooh to learn Pixinsight and have always wondered how those guys combine images from different sources.  I have a few different imaging trains I use and other than Photoshop, I find it difficult to combine images that have different pixel/angle densities, dimensions and distortion.

I enjoy your videos.

Quick question regarding your M31 Workflow.  You perform CC after debayering, however, would the reverse be suitable for hot pixel issues?

Hi

by cc I presume you mean colour correction !  this is obviously is done after debayering

hot pixels need sorting out with either cosmetic correction and or pixel rejection during integration

not sure what you mean by reverse of cc ?

Love all your Vids, and downloaded them too,  AND made a well deserved Contribution to the cause !!

My question is this:  How do I combine BINNED color images (2X2)   to non-binned images ??   You mention it in one of your videos but then you just used the Star Alignment tool and LRGB tool.   Is that all there is to it ??  Don't I have to use the Resample Tool ??

Thanks again,

Dennis

Hi

9.9 out of 10 times the star alignment tool will resample the binned image to the non binned image automaticaly ( make sure the lum is the referance image )

on the odd occasion it does not work you can as you say resample the binned to match the lum and this will manage the other 0.1 :)

Many thanks for your help  ;D

Hi Harry,

Thanks for the quick response !!

I just tried the star alignment method and YES it worked andregisterd them to each other.   BUT,  when I tried to combine into an HSO image , it didn't work.   Let me add,  I am only using ONE sub of each HA, OIII, SII  and they are still LINEAR with NO processing.  I was just trying it out for the first time.   Is the problem the fact that they are LINEAR and therefore won't combine using the Channel Combination tools ??

Still a Newbie after almost two years of this crazy hobby,

Dennis
