Photometric Color Calibration Error Message
« on: 2017 October 03 18:20:49 »
When I run PCC, I get this error message:

Code: [Select]
*******************************
Photometry process finished:
3 of 3 images processed successfully.
   0 images with errors.

*** Error: Insufficient photometric data: Got 2 sample(s); at least 5 are required.
Reading swap files...
2462.812 MiB/s
<* failed *>

Can someone tell me what I need to do to correct this error?  It seems everything solves.   I also ran ImageSolver script and it was successful.  This is a drizzle image, and I divided my pixel size in half for a scale factor of 2.  But I did crop the image before I ran PCC if that matters.  And I ran DBE and BN before running PCC.

Thanks

The APASS data do not completely cover the sky. There are areas where PCC will not find five usable stars and possibly no stars at all. With an uncropped image, the software may find five stars.

It is also possible that PCC rejected some stars and only two usable were left. Looking at the entire log may reveal this.

Bob

Hi,

This might help.  In PCC ---> Plate solving parameters ---> Force plate solving ENABLE and ---> Ignore existing metadata ENABLE

This fixed my similar problem.  Good luck.

I had this same issue with my image (going through the excellent lightvortex tutorials on my m27 data).  The following image (color combination post DBE) doesn't plate solve (even after fiddling with sensitivity and sat threshold).  I have no problem plate solving otherwise (I did so with acquisition), but I get precisely the same error as the OP.  Can anyone report if they get the same error or suggest what I might be doing wrong?  Looking at the found stars it only picks up 3-5 of the very brightest ones.

in ImageSolver, with star sensitivity set to -3 (in advanced parameters) and the center coordinates set to the result of a search for m 27 and the focal length set to 1400mm with 5.4um pixels, the image solves ok.

the stars are very soft and so with the sensitivity set to default (-1 i think) ImageSolver is probably not detecting enough stars.

Yep, that worked.  I'll keep this in mind the next time I have trouble.

Many thanks!

cool, good news.

overall probably because of the FL and seeing, the stars are a little soft. there's another control in StarAlignment that ImageSolver and PCC are not exporting: star detection > peak response. i think increasing this value from the default of 0.8 to maybe 0.9 can be helpful on this image when using StarAlignment.

Thanks again.  The assessment of star softness was very helpful as well.

Hi all, I had the same error message when solving on a two image mosaic of M78. I tried forcing the plate solve, but what worked was hitting the re-set button on the photometry parameters box and manually increasing the limiting magnitude to 16. Unfortunately I don't know which of those two actions fixed, it. I had previously run the PCC tool successfully on one of the two frames using the defaults.
regards,
Andrew.

Just to add one more solution here, my image of M33 had the same error, even though it solved in ImageSolver. It was a bit heavy on the green. i did an SCNR and re-ran PCC and it worked
