Hi Kayron - yes, that is an excellent image. My own personal taste would have been to have the 'background' sllightly 'darker' - to allow the nebulosity 'pop' more. However, in an area where nebulosity dominates, I accept that there are many different ways to approach the problem, and your choice is no less valid than anyone else's.

Well done!

Thank you! :) Indeed, though the dark sky I image under has produced tons of diffuse HA signal all over the background, so I chose to pull it out instead. 8)

Kayron

Love the image. One thing on what Niall was saying it is possible to target only the pixels without the diffused nebulosity using the Color Mask script. It can be very precise. Between it, a good star mask and pixel math you could create a very good mask for everything but the background.

Thank you! Yeah, I've used that script before, it's excellent, but I didn't use it for this image. On my monitor (IPS), I'm seeing over 90% of background covered in diffuse nebulosity, which is what I was aiming to bring out. In reality there seems to be very little in the way of background here.
