Screen Transfer Function Crash with newest Update?
« on: 2016 December 31 09:06:19 »
I had a previous error where when I used the "Screen Transfer Function" on a new view created by HDRComposition, the system would get a fatal error and PixInsight would crash.  You said this was due to a Dell version issue with QT.  And the fix was to uncheck the "Use Native File Dialog" perference.  and indeed, when I did that, the crash was (temporarily) resolved.

This morning, after I applied the latest update (1.08.04.1195), I ran the Drizzle Integration on a new set of images.  When I use the "Screen Transfer Function", the attached error dialogs show.  First I get the Invalid Conversion error, then if I close that and try again, I get the Low Level API Function error.  If I open another image that had used an earlier version of Drizzle Integration and that had already been stretched when saved, and I use the STF again, it works fine.

If I simply open a blank project and open this new image created by a new run of Drizzle Integration, and apply the "Screen Transfer Function", I get the error.  I have never had this problem other than what I describe above before.  So I am pretty sure this started after the latest update was applied this morning.    I then tried applying STF to an image that was the output of running Drizzle Integration last week and this had no previous STF applied.  And it runs fine.  The only time I get this error is running STF on a new run of Drizzle Integration.  File saved as 32-bit.

I am using a Dell Alienware X51, R3 that is a year old.  I have 16MB memory and plenty of disk space on SSDs.

I just tried running the Statistics Process on the same view and I get the same error dialog.  So it seems the file is corrupt.  I reran DrizzleIntegration but got the same results.  I will continue to investigate.

So I found my page file on my SSD was nearly full and got an error about running out of room.  I changed the system page file to be managed by the system and after a reboot, the problem seems to be fixed.  So it was a problem unique to my system.  But I wish the errors we got were more meaningful.  It is hard when an error occurs and we have no idea how to interpret the message other than to check disk space, virtual page space and memory.   But I am glad it seems to be working correctly now.
