I have been using PI for a little over 2 years so have some skill in image processing with it. I recently got the Inside Insight book and decided it would be good to do all the preprocessing steps in PI rather than using the script or CCDStack. However, when I would attempt to align a set of images that had gone through all the step included Cosmic Correction PI would get as far as the 4 running threads window and then go down. I tried this alignment several times and tried the different settings as explained in the book but the Alignment routine would either crash or fail to align all the images. Out of 28 images maybe 14 or 15 would align and the rest would fail. I also tried to shorten file names to see if that helped but it did not. I was also unable to integrate the images that were aligned. And I should mention that all images were good and nearly identical before alignment.
What my solution to the problem have I opened the images in CCDStack and aligned them there and then scaled them (made then non-linear). And now PI recognizes them and I am able to integrate the separate channels but my images are all non-linear.
Hope this is not confusing and would appreciate any help from anyone that has had a similar problem. I was unable to turn up a lot with a search.
