Should a calibrated sub look like this?
« on: 2016 November 16 14:07:52 »
Here is a screenshot of a sub after calibration.  To make Master calibration frames and calibrate my subs I used appropriate Darks, Bias' and Flats with the BPP script at default settings (WinSigma low4 + high3).  Is it normal to look the way it does, or did something go wrong during calibration?

Here is the individual frames lined up for comparison.  From left to right the order is: untouched sub, MasterBias, calibrated sub, MasterDark.  To compare, the pixels line up with each frame.

Is there a way to insert images throughout a post?  For example: A paragraph followed by an image, then another paragraph followed by another image (same format I was going for in the first post).

Attaching images just adds them at the bottom of the post, right?  I feel that my thread would be getting more attention if the reader didn't have to follow dropbox links.

I never figured this out. Perhaps someone will tell us.

The image inset icon will allow this but this is a hyperlink to the image. The image must be hosted on another server like I'm showing below.

The reason for this and the file size attachment restriction probably stems from the cost of running the forum server due to monthly bandwidth. Just a guess.

Isn't Dropbox another server?

So are you saying if I hyperlink my Dropbox photos they will appear in the post?  Lets try...

These are the 2 I linked to in the first post (which I really would like to hear back from someone addressing my original question about them).

Did you use the Insert Image button? This hyperlinks an image directly from a server and places that image within the text of the message. The Insert Hyperlink button only embeds the web address link in the text of the message for direct execution.

1 more try...

In the post preview it just shows the tiny picture icon, maybe it will show the picture in the actual post?  We'll see...

I posted the picture's url between the 'img img' and it just gave me that tiny icon.  Is Dropbox the problem?

I think it has to do with sites like Dropbox, Google Drive and so on. I just tried with drive and Google Photos and they don't work either.  My guess is it has to do with https protocol which shared drive sites use.

Below is a thumbnail image from the http://www.pixinsight.com/gallery/index.html page. The address for that image is http://www.pixinsight.com/gallery/NGC6914CAHA.jpg which is not using https protocol.

what it is is that those sites (google drive, dropbox, etc.) don't really let you link directly to a file; even when the link appears to point to .zip or .jpg or what have you, what you get is a landing page with some kind of preview. that preview page can't be inlined by the bulletin board software. maybe if you go to the preview page and look at the html you might be able to find the URL for whatever preview jpg pops up on that page, but i suppose there's no guarantee the URL is static.

a site like imgur or astrobin will let you link directly to a jpg if you like. however imgur seems to be somewhat ephemeral and after some period of time the images are removed.
