After loading an image,   how   do   I   get  the STF window  to  open   so   I   can  adjust  the sliders  for  black  point,  white point   and midtone  point?

Process > ScreenTransferFunction

don't forget that this does not change any data in the image. if you adjust STF and save the file, the data is unchanged. XISF knows how to save the STF with the image but still, the underlying data is not changed.

also, control-A or (command-A) on a mac will apply an automatic screen stretch without even bringing up the STF process. control-S will disable the STF.

Also, if you right click on the circular nuclear symbol in the STF tool, it brings up a group of sliders you can play with.
Really, are clear skies, low wind and no moon that much to ask for?

The version of STF that Jon is showing doesn't have the nuclear symbol. Not sure how old that version is now.

Right, do not  see that symbol.

My version is 1.8.4.1193, just downloaded only a week ago.

If you can't get the tool to open where did you get the screen shot from?

That STF icon is from an ancient version of Pix.
It is definitely not from 1.8.

Not in front of my computer (at least my PI one) but I swear that button is still on my version and I have 1193 loaded.  May be because I am in Linux?  In any event, try right clicking on those buttons on the right until the slider screen opens.
