Debayer process and parameters for Atik 4120ex OSC
« on: 2015 December 08 08:18:53 »
Help!
I continue to have problems in debayering images taken with my Atik 4120EX OSC camera. I just get very, very green images. Debayering in Maxim works just fine but I want to get all workflow to happen in Pixinsight.
Do I need to establish some sort of parameters for this camera before I call the debayer process?
What parameters should I be using in the debayer process?
Do I need to unlink the channels when calling STF. I have seen this in other posts. I do see a link channels icon but not one to unlink them.

regards,
Ron K

On the STF tool, look for a little icon that looks like a couple of chain links.  If you click on it, it should show the links broken.  I work with monochrome CCDs so I am no help with the rest of the debayer process but I have seen some good posts that include workflows for color CCDs and CMOS chips.

Best,

Jim
Really, are clear skies, low wind and no moon that much to ask for?

Ron

Here is an image shot with DSLR(OSC) debayered 3 different ways. Now I already know the proper debayer setting for this image is RGGB but I wanted to show the differences using the wrong Bayer patterns. The top row of images are using linked STF. The bottom is unlinked STF. Here I have the California nebula in the image so I know it is a red to magenta color, not purple or green, haha. With the linked STF it is obvious I do not have a the 3 color channels balanced yet. I can fix that later. I hope this helps.

Thanks to all,
After some experimentation I have settled on GRBG with Super Pixel selected. This produced to most realistic results for my ATIK 4120EX OSC camera. I think one "trick" was to break the chain link in STF.

hi please note that changing the fits reader direction will flip the pattern. just so you aren't surprised later in case the reader direction changes. for instance, with the way BPP works, it can set the fits reader direction temporarily to what it wants to use, even though the reader direction in the format explorer for fits is set to the other direction.

because of the two green pixels sometimes the green channel looks stronger than the others, which is one reason you may need to unlink the channels in STF. the correct "cure" for this is of course to use BackgroundNeutralization and ColorCalibration to fix the channel weights.
