Luminance Flat not matching Lights
« on: 2015 October 07 00:44:56 »
I just experienced an interesting issue which has come about due to moving from Maxim DL to Sequence Generator Pro as my image capture software. When running the batch pre processing script, the diagnostics tool kept on insisting that I didn't have any flats to match my Luminance lights. Funny, I thought as I had definitely loaded them. Upon closer inspection I found that the issue arose because the Luminance flats were captured using Maximum DL but this was the first set of lights processed which have been captured using SGP. Why is this a problem I hear you ask? The reason seems to be due to the different format of the entry in the 'FILTER' field in the FITS header. Maximum DL uses the format 'Luminance' in the FILTER field in the FITS header where SGP uses the format 'Lum     ' in this same field.

To overcome the issue I went through and manually updated the FITS header entries for the Luminance Flat frames (20 of) and then the Batch Pre Processing script passed the diagnostics ok. My assumption is that the script must look for an exact match on the filter name.

Welcome to the wonderful world of FITS interoperability issues.

"Luminance" and "Lum" are different filter names. Do you really think it's a good idea to modify the script to assume that both are equivalent? I am not so sure. Anyway, I don't see any bug here, but just an interoperability problem between applications, caused by an obsolete file format that is unable to standardize even basic image properties. We have started the XISF project precisely to solve these problems, among many others.

You don't need to modify FITS headers. You can instead add the required frames manually by clicking the Add Custom button.

Thanks Juan. Agreed in that I wasn't sure if this was a bug as such or more just a compatibility issue as you say.
Thanks for the tip on the add customer function.
