Hi there I bought pixinsight a little while back and I've really been enjoying using it however out of nowhere it seems when I attempt to drag and drop a mask that I cannot do so anymore. Normally when I drag a mask over, a small box appears and when I release the mask is applied and the tabs turn orange. Now, when I drag it over instead of a small box, I get a black x and the mask is not applied. I can manually select and apply masks. What may I have done to cause this ? Is there a 'reset to factory settings' feature?
Thanks in advance!
Scott P

if you drag an image onto the tab with the filename, what that does is set the viewport of the target image to the viewport of the image being applied. so if you want to zoom in on one image and then inspect another image at the same location, this comes in handy. you'll see a little + in that case.

to set a mask, drag onto the area below the filename.

if you are literally getting an X it means that the geometry of the image you are applying as a mask differs from the geometry (XY dimensions and # of color planes). although you can mask an N-plane image with a 1-plane image; that is legal.

Thank you for the reply!

I am attaching a picture of the X I get when trying to do it. I have been successful in masking in the past by just drag and dropping the mask, and I am not doing anything different at all (that I am aware of!). I extract a lum layer and invert then apply or use mask generation, then range selection, create and then apply. How would the images be different in X,Y values? I can also manually apply the masks.

So how would I remedy this?
Thanks again -
Scott P

if you extracted L to use as a mask from the original image, then the X/Y dimensions of the mask should be the same as the original image. so that's not the problem.

the only thing i can think of is that the tiff file is 4 dimensional, that is, it has RGB and Alpha channels. but i don't think that should prevent a mono mask from applying.

if you can manually apply the mask by using the Mask->Select Mask menu, then something very strange is wrong. usually you only get the X if you try to apply an image that does not appear in the list of eligible mask images in Mask->Select Mask.

Thanks again Rob, the issue is as described...odd, right? Yesterday I removed the program completely and reinstalled. The issue persists. I'm going to try it on another computer. I shouldn't be editing on this laptop monitor anyway.
Thank you,
Scott P

Hi Scott, Does it happen only with one image? Try cloning that image and apply the mask over the clone.
Saludos, Alejandro.

Hi,
I had the same issue with windows 7 64 bit, nvidia quadro 600.
I then istalled Fedora and upgraded to W10.
The windows install now works, even if the performance is quite poor.

I had a thread in the bug session, you should chime there and alert juan that there's one more case.

Ciao,
Andrea

Hi Scott,

I cannot reproduce this problem. Can you please post the following information:

- Width and height in pixels
- Number of channels
- Color space (RGB or grayscale)

for both the target and mask images?

Scott, try to put the "full screen "on.

It seems to work for me.

Thank you everyone for your help!!
Sorry for the delay in responding with the requested data. I also verified that the drag and drop mask issue does not happen on my other computers, just my Lenovo i5, 6GB ram laptop.

Here is an example -

4290x2856 greyscale, 1 channel, 32-bit floating point (mask)
4290x2856 RGB color, 3 channels, 32-bit floating point (target image)

I can just deal with it on my laptop I guess, but if you need any other details so that you may be able to create a workaround to help others, please let me know.

Thanks-
Scott P
