I'm getting this error while trying to execute the HDRComposition

the image itself was recorded by a consumer device

Hi astrofan, HDRComposition do not work with jpeg image. Try to ask for the original raw image or, not recommendable, convert them to .fit. Saludos, Alejandro.

Hi Alejandro,

thank you for the reply. Since you can add jpg into the batch window, I guess it would be better to disable the option then.
I know, nobody is using jpgs here :-) It was just a test. I filled the bug report with the intention to help.

That error message means that the JPEG file is empty or corrupted.

The HDRComposition tool supports all file formats, including JPEG (although using 8-bit images with this tool does not certainly make too much sense, but that's a different topic).

Oops!. There is something strange!. I concluded that after a simple test of opening two raw files and save them as .jpg. I continue getting the same error no matter which image I choose.  I tried also in other instances of PixInsight. I will try in another machine when I have the chance.

I'm getting the same error also. I tried 2 jpgs and got the error. I saved the jpgs as fits then no error. I saved the fits as newly named jpgs and the error again.

Bug confirmed. This is now fixed in version 1.8.4, which we'll release soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience. A workaround to use JPEG images with HDRComposition in the current version of PixInsight is disabling the automatic exposure evaluation and reject black pixels options. This avoids multiple image loads, which is the cause of the problem.
