Star mask question
« on: 2015 May 16 13:39:34 »
Just starting with PI...I am having difficulty eliminating the bright (extended) galaxies in order to generate masks only for stars. Harry's great tutorials don't help because he apparently demonstrates an earlier version of the star mask tool on his video. Could someone point me to a tutorial of the star mask tool that explains how to adjust each parameter? There is no description in Process Explorer.

Hi Tom, you can share your image and someone make a try to find a good starmask.
The values in starmask tool will vary if your image is linear or nonlinear. Try adjusting mainly NoiseThreshold and Scale.
You can also write starmask in PixInsight Resourses Home Page and will find several processing examples with the creation of masks that could help.
Saludos, Alejandro

Alejandro,

I have made sense of how most of the parameters are to be set in star mask except the mask preprocessing numbers.  I assume there must be some logical way to set those slider values other than trial and error and bumping the values randomly and generating the star mask to see how it is affected.
