Calibration master building
« on: 2015 February 16 05:58:55 »
I have huge stashes of calibration images that I’ve never built masters from because I’m too lazy to do them.  I’m wondering if PixInsight can (perhaps via some scripting) be coerced into diving into a pile of these and basically build separate masters using these classifications:

•   Filter type
•   Rotation angle
•   Temperature
•   Exposure duration
•   Binning

Lots of other tools exist for building masters but none that I’ve found pay any attention to rotation angle and I’m hoping this sort of thing is possible.

Thanks,
Jonathan

I guess then from the lack of replies that this is indeed something that PixInsight cannot do.

PI can do it --- if you can do scripts in JavaScript. I guess this is something that you cannot do ;) . So the answers is that PI has no out-of-the-box tool to do this.

A description of technique and possibly an example to jump start would be appreciated.

The BatchPreprocessing script can already deal with filter type, duration and binning so with a bit of manual file sorting you can probably do it manually in batches.

A description of technique and possibly an example to jump start would be appreciated.

Best place to start with this would be to learn some basic JavaScript and then read some of the existing scripts as examples.

Cheers,
Rick.

If you have asymmetrical vignetting then you might need to worry about rotation angle for your master flats but not for bias nor dark masters.
