Because the Curve tools does not offer a preview of what the histogram of the image looks like (hint, hint: this would be a good feature), as a workaround I some time use histogram transformation to preview the effect on the histogram on real-time preview.
more often than not, this results in the spinning beach ball on OSX
at which point the only solution is to kill the pi process and start again

The CurvesTransformation tool can draw the histogram of an image under the curves. Select the image and check the "Track View" icon on the tool's control bar (blue check mark).

I have just spent about one hour trying to reproduce this problem on an iMac with Yosemite with no success. The CurvesTransformation tool works without problems in real-time preview mode with the RealTimePreview virtual view selected on the HistogramTransformation tool. Both tools are 100% stable even with very complex curves transformations and large RGB color images.

Which version of PixInsight are you running? Can you upload the image that is giving you problems?
