M42 reprocessed
« on: 2014 November 12 14:51:25 »
Hello,

I followed this tutorial: http://lightvortexastronomy.blogspot.com/2013/12/tutorial-post-processing-pixinsight.html
exactly, but leaving out the optional HDRMultiscaleTransform because I think it was a little too much, to reprocess some subs of M42 I acquired with an unmodified Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) a few years ago.  I have processed this data several times, but never knew how much detail was in it.  All pre- and post-processing was done with PixInsight.  This is an excellent tutorial on using a fake Luminance image with DSLR data in PixInsight - and of course, PixInsight is amazing.

The data consisted of 35 three minute lights, 50 bias, 16 darks and 16 flats.

Cheers,

Don

You have processed this image very well, but you should try the HDRMT tool. It will help you with burned trapezium.
When you applying HDRMT you must play with settings, and find the one that suits your image. Number of layers is the key parameter.
