Frame adaptation or not
« on: 2014 November 22 13:25:20 »
Hi everyone....

I've been slowly collecting exposure on VDB 141 for over a month as the clouds allow. I have about 24 hours of datA....
Most of the data was shot as ISO 800 x 10 minute subs. I have about 7 hours worth at ISO 1600 also 10 minute subs....

Question...since these were all shot in differing nights and different ISO should I use frame adaptation during registration?

Thanks
Carlos

how good was your night-to-night pointing and what kind of optical aberrations do you have? those are the variables that will determine whether or not you need to turn on distortion correction.

frame adaptation is really for the mosaic modes... that tries to match the brightness of the panes under registration.

Thanks Rob!

Pointing was excellent and tracking as well (astrophysics Mach one)...all frames are very close with just minor rotation and dithering effects. I do have some coma due to my field flattener not completely fixing this on the edges.

Image registration was successful....I need to blink or use subframe selector to see if I should throw out any of the 144 frames!

Thanks again
Carlos

yeah with 144 frames i'd say you should run SFS!

sounds like a great project. lots of data.

I've never accumulated this much data on an object before but these dusty areas of Cepheus are so faint that I have no choice with my bortell 5 skies. I just hope I can do the data justice with my processing ;)
