Image solver for almost all sky photo
« on: 2014 September 09 07:21:17 »
Hi all!

I want to use ImageSolver script with this image taken with a fisheye lens.

I was unable to get any result with the script, neither using astrometry.net engine. Perhaps is because the high distortion of the field?

Any input will be welcomed,

Sergio

Images taken with fish-eye lenses can not be modeled by the Gnomonic projection that ImageSolver (and PinPoint and Astrometry.net) uses. Usually the orthographic projection is better for these images.

I have plans for modifying ImageSolver in order to be able to choose between several projections including the othographic projection. However, I don't know if it will be able to solve your image.
This new version should be available in a few weeks. I have a partially finished version that works much better with wide angle images, but I can not finish it until PI implements a few new methods in PJSR.

The attached image is a test of an experimental version of ImageSolver. I have solved the image using the Zenithal projection.

Hello Andres,

This is really great news, Will it work with the output from the Starlight Xpress Oculus camera by any chance.

Looking forward to trying it out if it can.

Regards
Martin
