Combining RGB and Luminance from different cameras

Hi everybody,

the idea is to combine RGB Data from a 1000Da (5.7 microns pixel size) and Luminance from a KAF 8300 mono (pixelsize 5.4 microns).
Is that possible with PI, and when how to accomplish that?
The data will be gathered with the same optic. Do i have to split the RGB channels in R, G and B?
What about registering the different scales? Does it makes sense at all?
Lot of question marks, i hope that someone can help.

Process each image separately and then use Dynamic Alignment to scale and align to each other. Typically I use the largest, in this case I guess the luminance and register the RGB to it. So Open both processed images and then open the Dynamic Alignment Process. You have to decide which is the referenced image (1st) and then the second image (to be registered). Once you have picked your 1st reference star you will likely need to drag the box on the second image to the same star as you picked in the luminance so try for some isolated stars first. Same with the second star so make sure they are easily recognized. After that, if the first two were correctly picked, the rest should mimic on each image. I usually use a about 12 points spread throughout the image. Not sure that's necessary but that's what works for me. In my case I bin the RGB data 2x2 and the luminance 1x1 using the same camera but they are different image scales so this should work just fine.

Actually after re-reading this I guess the RGB is the largest image (35mm format?). But either way will work.

thanks for your quick reply. Do you mean you preprocess the data of the same scale separately
and combine the ready processed stacks?

Yes, I do the RGB image to my liking and then the luminance. After registering, and saving the registered image, combine using the LRGB Process. You'll need the images open and only those two, uncheck the R, G, and B boxes and keep the luminance box checked and make sure it's picked.
