Strange rainbow stars?
« on: 2014 May 14 15:32:14 »
In our latest image we have an anomaly that we've never seen before.  At first, we thought it was a registration problem, but we've registered and re-registered and tried all kinds of different methods.  We even tried 2D surface splines with distortion correction and nothing seems to correct the problem.  Now I'm not so sure it is a registration problem.  Any ideas?

I've attached a screen shot of the PI window (zoomed in).

Thanks,
- C&T

Interesting. I recently saw a similar (the same?) problem.  See here http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=7036.0

Thanks Geoff.  I looked at your post and tried Juan's "trick" of cycling the channels to check alignment.  I may have found the problem, but not sure how it happened?  The stars in the R, G & B channels have become malformed in the processing somewhere.  In the L channel they are fine.
