what settings if using a debayered dslr?
« on: 2017 February 21 20:17:32 »
Hi all,

I debayered my dslr but I am having trouble processing the images. When using this camera before removing the bayer matrix, I had the preferences as "pure raw" in order to be able to read the image correctly. Now that is a monochrome camera, what settings do I need to use?

Thanks!

"pure raw" seems correct - what you want is a CFA monochrome image (1 plane), which is what clicking the "pure raw" button does.

what processing problem are you having?

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the response. The issue that I am having is that when I apply an edit to the image, it doesn't actually get edited the way it shows on the preview window. I am able to stretch the image but I can't save it on the histogram. When I apply anything to the histogram, it doesn't do it on the actual image for some reason...

To be honest with you, I think I may have damaged the sensor while scraping the bayer matrix. This is only a test so it's not a big deal but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't doing something wrong on PixInsight.

Here is a link for dropbox if you want to see the raw image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qfae3kqbnr3lrm0/last.ORF?dl=0

Thanks!
Sebastian

that image is interesting - it looks to me like all the red and blue pixels are reading back as the decimal value 4094, while the green pixels have real signal. it does seem that the sensor is damaged, but not necessarily optically as i would not expect all those pixels to be stuck at 4094. that value is somewhat suspicious since if the sensor is a 12-bit design then 4095 is the maximum value you'd ever read back for a saturated pixel. but i would not expect the red and blue channels to be completely overexposed while the green channel seems reasonably OK, so it seems like something wrong in the sensor electronics rather than some optical/mechanical problem with scraping the bayer matrix...

Very interesting...Thank you for taking a look at it. Did you attempt to edit it to see if you could be applied to it?

What is weird is that sometimes the image would look pink and sometimes green depending on the light source.

There are two things that could have damaged the electronics of the sensor (besides scraping)...one is the fact that I scraped beyond the edge of the sensor and the second is that I attempted to cover the gold wires with epoxy to protect them although non of them broke. Anyways...that is beyond the point of this topic.

Thanks again
Sebastian

in the image that i debayered and extracted the green channel, no problem making HT stick.

on the raw CFA version i think the saturated pixels are clipping to 1 when i do the HT and so the HT kind of destroys the image. you can't see the green pixels for all the bright blue/red pixels surrounding them.

That's the same thing that I noticed...

Is there a way around all of this? Changing camera settings maybe?

Cheers
