Inconsistent values when loading 350D CR2 files
« on: 2014 April 13 02:04:52 »
I did try to load a set of 'flats' to test the linearity of the 350D.
I found the following problem:
The median shown on the FileExplorer for the CR2 files seems correct (the files are transformed in RGB whatever the global settings for raw files are, for whatever reason).
However the file loaded from the CR2 file in raw format (no black compensation) is much much darker. The values seems to be about 20 times lower than the expected ones.  They are also much darker compared to other programs converting the same file.

It seems that the dcraw in PI does not take into account that the 350D uses a range of 4096, or some other issue I did not see.

Any clue ?  Any bug ?

This again an answer to my own post, sorry.
Indeed the RAW file format does not extend the range for the Canon 350D (which uses only 12 bits), so full white on the Canon ends up at 0.0625 in PixInsight.
For some unknown reason the file explorer does scale the data for the histogram.

I think it should at least be an option to scale when loading a CR2 file, to be consistent.
