Statistics process crashes
« on: 2014 April 07 11:18:26 »
Hi,

since a while the statistics process crashes on previews with memory addressing error.
Is there anything I can do by myself?

Hi Hartmut,

The first thing to do is providing us with a test case to reproduce the problem, along with any information that can help us to understand what happens. Can you upload one of the images that are causing this problem? Possibly related: have you installed any unofficial modules?

Hola Juan,

I collected some material:

- the image

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/90132063/Documents/M%203.fit

- the situation at the beginning

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/90132063/Documents/M3HistRTPreview.png

- and with the exception

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/90132063/Documents/M3HistRTPreview_Exception.png

This exception occured, when I clicked the close icon (x) at the Real-Time Preview window and the busy icon at the top left of the window was rotating over the time. In some cases before, access violations happened frequently with other actions. Simple "mouse over" operations in the statistics process or disabeling the preview led to that kind of errors too.

My system:

Dell precision M6600, 8 GB, Win 7 64-Bit.

Hartmut,
can you provide a sequence of actions that will produce the problem? Or does it just happen every now and then?

Georg,

yes, it's random. And if this can help, it just happens again when I tried to close the preview window.

Bug confirmed. It happens on all platforms when:

- The Real-Time Preview is being used by any processing tool.

- The Statistics tool has the RealTimePreview virtual view selected.

- The Real-Time Preview is busy computing a new preview.

- Either the Real-Time Preview is closed or the Statistics view selector is hovered with the mouse.

Thank you for reporting. The workaround is obvious: just wait until the real-time preview has been generated. I'll try to get this bug fixed in the next version.

FYI, this bug and another one related to the same problem are now fixed in the next version, which I'll release in a week or so. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The other related bug is a crash when a view list has the RealTimePreview virtual view selected and you hover it with the mouse. This happens on Statistics and HistogramTransformation. Just avoid moving the cursor over view lists with RealTimePreview selected. As I've said this is now fixed in the next version.
