Re: Prerelease of PixInsight 1.8.0 Ripley on Endor Server (build 1065)
« Reply #15 on: 2013 December 07 12:04:17 »
Hi all,

There are new packages for version 1.8.0.1065 now available on Endor. Linux, Mac OS X and Windows installation packages, plus updated PCL packages.

Unless someone discovers something that stops us, this version is the final 1.8.0 release. These are the most important new features in build 1065:

- Integration of the Mozilla SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine version 24.1.

- New boosted STF AutoStretch functions.

- View list floating previews. You get live thumbnails of views while you select them on tools.

- StarAlignment: New smoothed 2-D surface spline registration models. Thanks to this feature, distortion correction is now more efficient, robust and accurate than in previous versions. This is particularly important for mosaic construction.

- Live JavaScript instance source code generation / interpreter directly available on all tools.

I'll describe all of this stuff with examples on the release information board. Thank you for your support and patience.

Thanks, just in time to play during holidays.

Do you recommend a specific version of Linux (Fedora something?). This is to use on a virtual machine over Windows 7 for tests of scripts and, maybe, some PCL development.

Have nice holidays season, I'll prepare a long wish list for next year  ;)

Hi Juan,

Great news. Unfortunately my PM notifying you of an update to my Repaired HSV Separation Script got lost in immense workload you've had this year. Functionally the same as v 1.0.2 but v 1.0.3 (downloadable from here) no longer generates the "assigned to undeclared variable" warnings that the stricter PI v 1.8 compiler was issuing.

v 1.0.3 was also announced in this post and that thread also forms the documentation for the script for those who might want to read further.

Thank you to you and the whole team who have worked so hard this year. Have a wonderful Christmas and a bug-free New Year.  :)

Bob.

Hi Bob,

Yes, I forgot to update your script in the installation packages. I have included version 1.0.3 in build 1071, which is the final version that I'm going to announce officially. Sorry for this mistake.

Hi Bitli,

If it's for development purposes, Fedora for sure. One of the latest versions should work perfectly. Just take into account that on Linux we have the eternal problem with glibc versions. The current version of PixInsight for Linux uses glibc version 2.15 (March 2012). If you build your modules with a newer glibc version, the binaries won't work on older distributions.

Juan,
To promote freebsd, would you maybe update the requirement page for PCL?

It took me some trial an error to find that in fact you use clang, not GCC as advertised (which is a good thing), but then we need gmake, not make...
