OS X Mavericks?

this stupid logitech security camera software... it's already iffy on 10.8.

it's not that i'm worried about crashiness, it's something fundamental like "can't open a file" or something like that. some people are reporting problems like that.

My home computer (the one I use PI on the most) is a MacBook Pro purchased in spring 2009, and it still runs Snow Leopard. Heck, I'm still running PI 1.7 on it! Haven't gotten around to Mountain Lion or PI 1.8 yet, even.

(Although I have installed ML and PI 1.8 on two computers at work that I occasionally use for PI.)

I find that since I have upgraded to OSX 10.9, PI always defaults to my ~/Documents folder when I go to Open or Save a new file.
Really annoying, but not crippling..

If you tick the "Remember File Open file type" option in the File I/O Settings I think it fixes this problem. Not intuitive but I think it works.

Marek, I've read about a number of people that so loved Snow Leopard that they skipped both Lion and ML. But those that are upgrading all the way from SL to Mavericks are finding it better and snappier. So Mavericks is basically the upgrade that Snow Leopard was to Leopard, Tiger, and the rest. A big one, and good.

I *have* noticed an issue that I'm not sure is entirely PI related. When I go to open an image in PI, there is a longish pause before the directory's contents are shown, almost like it's taking some time to index the files.

I have been giving Mavericks a pretty heavy workout today on my 2011 iMac and it has not as much as sneezed. I wouldn't say performance is better or worse and the upgrades are a bit yeh but at least it appears to be PI friendly.

I had been using Snow Leopard for a long time, when I got a new MBP at work, with Lion on it. The main thing that (at first) freaked me out about Lion and Mountain Lion was the lack of Spaces and Expose. I can't live without Spaces!

Fortunately, I found a 3rd-party solution, which gave me back my Spaces:

Looks like it's been updated for Mavericks.

I need to get around to updating my home machine to Mountain Lion, at least, and PI 1.8.

Don't you still have the spaces in Mav or the Lions if you want them? Granted, they're just linear, but do they not do something that the 2-d spaces do? I used to love and use space on SL, but I found myself easily living without them when I upgraded.

But yeah, TotalSpaces is most likely great, I love their sister product, TotalFinder. Cut and paste, folders on top, dual sided browsing, good stuff.

You're right, Lion and ML have a sort of side-by-side version of Spaces. For some reason, my brain just couldn't cope with that - I needed a 3x3 grid of Spaces.

I think I'd gotten pretty seriously hooked on Spaces when I was working on my Swinburne degree. I used Space #1 (upper left) for my bibliographic reference management software, Space #4 (middle left) for my PDF-reading software and for writing in LaTeX, Space #5 for my browser, etc...

My brain has been stuck in an `I need a 3x3 grid' mode ever since 

Pixinsight lives in Space #3, BTW. I can't imagine PI being anyplace other than the upper-right. Adobe programs live in the middle-right Space... one spot below PI

yeah, i use totalspaces as well. anyone who uses/d linux (or even Solaris) and used fvwm needs this feature. i have control-shift arrows mapped to change spaces so i can zip around fast.

somehow they changed how spaces worked in lion and i could never get used to it. thank FSM for totalspaces!

Anyone know how to change the default folder to something else than 'documents'?  I don't get my images there.
