Thinking of upgrading my trial license
« on: 2013 October 12 10:58:31 »
Hi All

I have used Photoshop Nebulosity and Image Plus for processing Deep sky data for a year or two now and am using the trial License for Pixinsight to see if it will give me more options in my processing it does seem to give good results in the on line tutorials can anyone give me their own experiences when they started to use Pixinsight.

Bob,

I am a relative newbie to PixInsight, but find it so much better than what I was using before, namely pre=processing with CCDStack and processing with Photoshop.  I have been imaging for around 4 years now and been using PixInsight steadily for a couple of months and couldn't be happoer with the switch.  It will take some dedication on your part to really get the most out of it (I consider myself still a rank beginner) but the effort will be well rewarded.  The PixInsight routines are great and make just make sense compared to other options.  And the forum is a great tool to get answers.  Lots of friendly folks that know how to get the most from the program.

Best of luck.

Jim
Really, are clear skies, low wind and no moon that much to ask for?

I was right there with you, using Nebulosity, some Photoshop, some native Maxim DL and CCDSoft. Tried DSS, tried CCDStack, all of them.

Nothing I have ever used compares to PI, in my opinion. From the very first day that I was using it to remove a deep gradient on my M31 data (effortlessly) to using it to win the Hubble's Hidden Treasures contest, PixInsight has just gotten better and better for me. They're adding new tools and refining their processes all the time, and I think it deserves the top spot among astro processing software by a large margin.

So, welcome! Bring questions you have to this forum, look for all the great tutorials online, and share your progress with us. I think you'll find what I did, that PI revolutionizes your processing workflow and results.

Nothing else comes close. With all the online tutorials, learning it now is a lot easier than it was 5 years ago.

Chris

ps use it for 6 months and then try processing an image in Photoshop. Its akin to trying to fell a tree with a penknife!
