Having difficulty with ImageSolver script and others.
« on: 2013 August 29 05:32:41 »
Hi,

My first completed image that pleases me!  A Wide Field RGB of M8 and M20 with a Pentax 6x7 300mm Lens on a QSI683ws.  TheSkyX for acquisition/focusing/guiding and PixInsight for all post Processing.

I cannot get it to solve with ImageSolver v3.1  nor ManualImageSolver .  The CatalogStarGenerator required for the latter only generates a horizontal band of stars (about 20% of the height) through the centre of the image but that is inverted.  It will Annotate but  the Annotated copy shows a horizontal mirrored result for the annotation.   Images of other objects taken last year with different software and telescopes also won't solve even though they were Plate Solved by Pinpoint when taken.  The uploaded image solves easily with TheSkyX Image link.

I would appreciate any help to determine if I am doing something wrong.

Images are on Endor shared files but are large (90Mb) files.  I'm not sure of the protocol here so please (gently) straighten me out.

Hi Charles,

there are a lot of questions in your message:
  • (Q)You can not solve some wide field images with ImageSolver nor ManualImageSolver: (A)ImageSolver has a lot of problems with wide field images, but ManualImageSolver should be able to solve "anything". Have you read the documentation of ManualImageSolver?. In any case I will analyze your images.
  • (Q)CatalogStarGenerator only generates a horizontal band of stars: (A) CatalogStarGenerator can only download data for 50000 stars in each query. You should decrease the value of magnitude filter for requesting less stars. Also, for wide field images you should use the catalog "BrightStars".
  • (Q)ImageSolver can not solve images previously solved by other software: (A) I need an example of these images.

I can not download these images. Endor shows an error: "Cannot find file!".

Thanks Andres, I will follow up your queries later today.
I went through the 'sharing' process and tested it by downloading, forgetting of course that since I 'own' them, I am allowed to download!  I will look into that also.

Hi Andor,

I found my error with my previously solved images,  ImageSolver script Advanced parameters had the star sensitivity set to the maximum.  I can't ever remember setting that but who knows.
The WideField eventually did solve manually using the GSC catalogue.  That provided 30 stars within the image and the image required a horizontal mirror inversion for the Dynamic Alignment to be done.  It took me over 3 hours to adjust parameters and eventually find a combination that worked.  I tried ImageLink in TheSkyX and it found the raw widefield in about 3 secs.
Anyway, if you care to look at my images, they are in a folder 'cfranks'.  http://endor.uv.es/files/data/public/341888.php and http://endor.uv.es/files/data/public/754e3d.php

many thanks for your guidance,
Charles
