possible linux bug
« on: 2013 August 01 19:15:02 »
I'm fairly new to Linux but I think there might be a bug in PI for linux.  I'm using Linux Mint 15-Mate and in general PixInsight works perfectly if I have X11 compositing disabled (and I get the warning message in the command window).  If I enable compositing, no warning message, but I can't bring up any of the tools.  Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

That seems an old bug to me. Are you using the latest version? What kind of compositor does mint use?

Hi,

This problem should not happen with any well configured Linux or UNIX distribution. In fact, running PixInsight on X11 without a working compositing manager is currently deprecated, and will be disabled during the 1.8 cycle.

If you are new to Linux and have no special reason to use a particular distribution, I strongly recommend you install a recent version of Fedora or Ubuntu, with a recent version of KDE 4, GNOME 2 or GNOME 3, at your option. PixInsight works perfectly with these distributions and desktop managers.
