M106

PI Forum friends,

I'm getting too old to travel and my "observatory" is a Bortle 5 patio on a nursing home campus. My Stellarvue 80ED with Canon 60Da is a lot of fun, but I lust for high quality DSO data to feed my PI habit.

This image is the result of working with Adam Block at the University of Arizona Mt. Lemmon SkyCenter science learning facility located at the 9,175 ft. summit of Mt Lemmon, just north of Tucson. The telescope is their 32-inch Schulman. I took advantage of the SkyCenter's public remote observing program, which means I bought time on the 'scope and Adam did the data gathering and sent me the results.

The image, specs, and PI workflow are at http://orlop.net/astro/m106.

I only gathered unbinned RGB data, and my simplistic "workflow for dummies" was to find out how far the data would take me without getting fancy. (I'm not capable of getting very fancy, anyway!) One of these days I'll return to the data to attack it from another direction, but in the meantime I would appreciate your evaluation of the image and suggestions for improving it.

Enjoy, and thanks for looking.

Dave

Beautiful image, Dave-
Soft and natural are definitely the words but not easy to achieve.
