Further Processes to enhance faint detail?
« on: 2013 February 26 15:33:58 »
I have calibarted, rejected hot/cold pixels, aligned, combined, performed DBE and then stretched using Historgram Stretch. The image, uploaded to my website for any who may want to download (35MBs) is a combined image made from 21 - 20 minutes subs in Ha of SH2-240 also known as Simeis 147. Taken using a 2008 Takahashi FSQ-106ED and SBIG STL-11000M CCD camera over three nights. A total of 7 hours of data used. I'm at a loss as to what else to do to bring out the faint detail and enhance the image. It is a faint image at best. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The image can be downloaded at http://www.astral-imaging.com/SH2-240-21-Ha_dbe2_hst_crvs.zip

Hi Steve

Well, much of the nebulosity is out there, visible. It is just a matter of increasing the contrast a bit. You may try using the ExponentialTransforms process. It uses lightness masks to protect the highlights, while increasing the contrast in the shadows/midtones. I would play with the PIP function, and see what happens. You may even try performing several iterations.

Thanks Carlos,

That processs is very much like the Shadows/Highlights tool in Photoshop that I had become so fond of. Thank you for the suggestion.
