Update Problem of RC3 under VMWare Win8
« on: 2013 February 06 12:05:46 »
Hi everybody,

I am no longer able to updt PI under VMware Win8 environment ? I am getting the attached Error Msg?
Since I am not very familiar with Win8, I can not isolate the origin of the problem..
Any Ideas?

BTW.: this doesn't mean that it's a bug; not necessary  >:D

Thanks!

Clear Skies!!

Hi Lex,

From the screenshot, this looks like a folder permissions problem. We use Windows on VMware virtual machines all the time, and have never seen this problem. Can you try on a physical machine? On a different user account? Somebody else can confirm this issue?

Hi Juan,

I already thought the same but appearently nothing changed in the permissions. The sharing options did not change, I think so...
The problem showed up after the upgrade so the native windows 7 wasn't touched to deeply.
Thing I did not try is to reinstall PI completely.
Sadly I do not have a physical Win8 machine and as I am the admin on the Virtual Machine I do not think that this originates the problem.
I will give it a try by reinstalling and keep you posted if the problem persists..

Thanks Juan!

Hi,

I uninstalled RC3 and reinstalled it. The program as usual told that there were updates available; and I got the same error message than last time?
I installed the 64bit Win version and the errors message says something related to 32bit?
I can not figure out what this could be?

On the other hand the path of the error message does not exist, it does the match with the "real" disk structure?!  ???

The AppData directory may be hidden?!? Maybe it contains a version of the file from a previous update that it cannot delete.

Guys;

problem solved. I tried to empty the different folders of the folder doc without succes.
I then simply moved the doc folder; and see there, RC3 update without any error message?
Kind of strange; isn't it?
