Hi Philippe,

This is really strange. Something weird has messed up with your PI application. Do the following:

- On Finder, right-click the PixInsight.app application bundle and select "Show Package Contents". Or you can use PI's File Explorer window, where PixInsight.app is just a regular folder.

- On the "PixInsight.app/Contents" folder, locate the "updates.xri" file. Send this file to trash.

- Run  the PixInsight application. Download and install all the available updates (there are six) again.

The problem should be gone now. I cannot reproduce it on Mac OS X, so it must be (I hope!) a problem specific to your installation. Please confirm that it works after this fix.

Juan

I had this problem as well, I use a Mac running OS 10.8.2. Problem solved with the instructions you supplied to Philippe B.

David

Hi Juan,

I too had the same problem as Kingfisher. The fix about trashing the updates.xri file worked for me too.

I had the same problem.  On the off-chance it might be related to the underlying cause of the issue, I don't have PixInsight installed in the /Applications folder, it is elsewhere on my system.  I removed the file as recommended earlier in the thread, and it seems to have resolved the issue.

it is happening to me too, app is in /applications. could this be a permissions problem in the applications bundle? seems like everyone on OSX has the problem.

Same happened here too. All other aspects of Ripley now seem stable.

I have good news. I have managed to found and fix this bug. However, since the bug is in the main updater application (which is problematic to update), I prefer to wait until we release a 1.8.0 RC2 version in a couple of days.

Thank you for your patience and support. For now, you can apply the workaround consisting of manually removing the "updates.xri" file, as I explained above. Anyway, this is a matter of a couple of days, as I have said. I hope RC2 will be fully stable and free from all of these nuisances.

Happy New Year to everybody!

Juan,

I just installed 1.8 RC3 for OS X 64 bit

followed the previous advice and deleted the updates.xri file. PI now crashes on exit every time.

Here is the crash log:
