Hi all,
Yesterday we released a new version of PixInsight: 1.8.0.997 RC5. This version fixes all (confirmed) bugs discovered in previous 1.8 release candidates. Despite the fact that we have released it as RC, this version should be considered a stable version of PixInsight. The only difference between RC5 and the final 1.8.0 release is the lack of some new tools and core application features.
RC5's most important new feature is undoubtedly the
AperturePhotometry script, developed by Andrés del Pozo and Vicent Peris. This script opens up a whole new field of application for the PixInsight platform.
RC5 also introduces the new look of PixInsight 1.8 (new splash and about screens), completes the change of icons in the core application, has a number of core UI performance improvements, and adds a new
Resources > Acknowledgments main menu item.
For developers, RC5 comes with a new PCL version (2.0.2, which we have released also yerterday) and new PJSR functionality. A nice new feature is the inclusion of the
gnuplot utility program, which from now on is part of the PixInsight Core distribution on all platforms. This is an important improvement because gnuplot allows PJSR and PCL developers to generate sophisticated 2D and 3D graphical data and function representations, directly from PixInsight scripts and modules. I'll describe this new feature in more detail on the development forum boards.
Enjoy it!
